You can reach trailhead villages in just two hours from Marrakesh, and the main walking routes are easily followed. Walking just a short distance from the most common starting point – Imlil Village – you are transported to a very different world and this is The most popular Treks you can do on the Area.
Atlas Valley Treks.
One of the easiest parts of the High Atlas region to visit from Marrakesh (within easy reach for weekender tourists and day visitors), Imlil & Ourika Valley is one of Morocco’s most popular regions for outdoor activities. Surrounded by lush green fields, this valley is home to stunning waterfalls and some excellent hiking trails. The village of Achayn is a good base for further forays as well as being the start of the Djebel Toubkal trek, which usually takes three days.

Ait Bougmez, in the Central High Atlas Mountains, is one of Morocco’s best-preserved valleys and one that offers numerous hiking possibilities for walkers of all levels of fitness. It is the centrepiece of a fantastic region and showcases some of Morocco’s most dramatic and beautiful mountain scenery. The wide, flat-bottomed, valley is punctuated by a network of picturesque villages linked by paths, making it an excellent place for leisurely strolls, whilst the surrounding mountains of the M’goun range offer some of the most challenging and rewarding trekking in Morocco.

Explore the mud and stone Berber houses of imlil Valley and the surrounding villages with the different colours of the earth. We will ride through lush green forests of pine, juniper, and oak trees as well as olive orchards and visit the traditional Berber salt mine. We will have lunch with a local Berber family’s home in the middle of the 3 hr ride. The hillsides are always green and we can ride to the nearby dam to see the reservoir.
